Freshman Enrollment

The Admissions Committee is made up of counselors, administrators, teachers, and leaders on campus. The process is holistic and looks at all aspects of the young man before any decision is made. The Committee recommends some students require a formalized orientation and enrichment experience before classes start in August.

If your son received an invitation to the Freshman Summer Institute as part of his admission, please visit Camp Brain to register for the program. Camp Brain includes various for-credit and non-credit courses. Please ensure you register for the required for-credit Freshman Summer Institute course. Refer to your letter before registering - Freshman Summer Institute is by invitation only.

Sample Schedule for Freshman Summer Institute:

Students invited to one class (Math/English):
- 8:00-10:00am: Math or English Enrichment
- 10:10-12:10pm: Art and Study Skills

Students invited to two classes (Math and English)
- 8:00-10:00am: Math Enrichment
- 10:10-12:10pm: Art Class
- 1:00-3:00pm: English Enrichment

Many students like to start their Jesuit experience during the summer and we are excited to offer for-credit classes to incoming freshmen. There are some advantages to taking a summer class. It will reduce the course load during the academic year and potentially reduce homework and allow more time for extracurricular activities (clubs, sports, etc.). Summer school will not, however, reduce the minimum number of credits the student must take during the academic year. All freshmen are required to take 5.50 credits (exclusive of Physical Education) between the fall and the spring semester.

Summer school lasts from June 5-23; there will be no classes on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. The tuition for each class is $550.00 (lunch and supplies included) and enrollment is limited.

Summer School Courses: Geography and Foundations, Introduction to Computer Programming: Robotics, Argumentation and Debate, Theater Arts

Summer Programs: Football, Olympic Sports, Swim Training, Water Polo Training, and more.

Placement test details will be emailed to students and parents on April 12.

Jesuit aims to place students in courses that allows them to be challenged and successful. With that goal in mind, it is important that all students be evaluated prior to setting foot on campus for their first day of class. Jesuit is administering math and language placement tests online. The tests will be available to students for over 1 week for asynchronous completion; there is no set day for the test administration.

Language Department

Students are required to complete 3 successive years of the same language beginning with freshman year. Jesuit offers Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, French, and Latin.

Testing is required for:

• students who have had any previous instruction, no matter how little or infrequent.
• students who speak the language (French, Spanish or Mandarin) in the home.

Testing is not required for:

• students with NO foreign language classes on their transcript that match the language they are choosing to study while at Jesuit.
• students who elect to take a different language at Jesuit than their previous language experience. This includes, for example, a native speaker of Spanish enrolling in French, Mandarin or Latin.

The placement test has various sections (reading, writing, etc.) that aim to best support the student and his proficiency. More details will be included in the communication on April 12.

Math Department

Placement in mathematics classes is determined from several criteria including:

• The math courses indicated on the student’s eighth grade transcript
• ISEE scores, particularly a student’s math and quantitative scores.
• Jesuit’s Math Placement Test results (ALEKS)

Listed below are common scenarios that may help you to better understand math placement.

• An incoming 9th grade student who has not completed an Algebra course in 8th grade or does not perform satisfactorily on Jesuit’s Algebra Skills Assessment will be placed in a level of Algebra 1. Typically this student will take a Geometry course in 10th grade and an Algebra 2 course in 11th grade.
• An incoming 9th grade student who has completed an Algebra course in 8th grade and performs satisfactorily on Jesuit’s Algebra Skills Assessment will be placed in a level of Algebra 2. Typically this student will take a Geometry course in 10th grade and a Precalculus course in 11th grade.

All students have the ability to be calculus ready by graduation. Below are the common progressions:

Initial Placement of Algebra 1: Algebra 1* - Geometry* - Algebra 2* - Precalculus*

Initial Placement of Algebra 1: Algebra 1* - Geometry* - Algebra 2* - Precalculus during summer between junior/senior year - Calculus*

Initial Placement of Algebra 2: Algebra 2* - Geometry* - Precalculus* - Calculus*

*=College Prep, honors, or AP

Note: There are additional options available for motivated students, including multivariable calculus, linear algebra.

All incoming freshmen will be placed in Theology, English, Language, Mathematics, Biology, Geography and Foundations, Introduction to Computer Programming, and Freshman Experience. All of these courses are part of the four year plan. Once you complete the enrollment form, our department chairs will review your application information, language requests, and, in the case of math and language, your placement tests. Your final course list and schedule will be available this summer.

Textbooks: With rare exception, Jesuit provides all of your textbooks as part of your tuition. Thus, there is no need to worry about purchasing textbooks over the summer.

Freshman Experience: a for-credit (pass/fail) class that includes study hall, physical education, and health.

Foreign Language: When completing the Enrollment Form you will be asked to select your foreign language (Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, or Latin). See Academic Departments for further course descriptions and levels available.

Jesuit requires that all students supply their own laptop to be used for educational activities at school. Students are expected to bring their device fully charged to school every day. They should also bring appropriate charging equipment.

Students attending Summer School should come prepared with their device on the first day.

Students are required to have their Preparticipation Physical Evaluation, additional health forms, and immunization records completed and uploaded into MagnusHealth before attending classes or athletics at Jesuit, including summer programs.

Immunization Requirements:
In accordance with Texas law, Jesuit Dallas requires all students to provide an official immunization record from a physician or clinic. For all new students, official records must be approved by the school nurse before the enrollment process is considered complete. Exemptions from immunizations for reasons of conscience are not accepted at Jesuit Dallas. For questions regarding immunization records, please contact our school nurse at schoolnurse@jesuitcp.org. 

What is MagnusHealth and why do I have to wait to access it?
Jesuit utilizes MagnusHealth for health records. Information will be sent to accepted families about how to access MagnusHealth in mid-April; Jesuit has a Single Sign On (SSO) feature with Magnus so access is not available until RangerNet information is provided.

Why do I have to do a UIL health screening?
Regardless of your son's desire to participate in UIL athletics, all Jesuit students are required to complete the Preparticipation Physical Evaluation form. Desires and pursuits change over the years, in addition to some classes being UIL eligible (e.g., Band), so we require all students to complete all UIL documents for attendance.

Other Health Forms:
All families will have additional forms to complete in MagnusHealth (e.g., medical authorization to treat, over the counter medication, etc.).
