Washington D.C. Ignatian Solidarity Conference

Program Description: The Ignatian Solidarity Network invites the Jesuit schools of the USA, Canada, and Mexico to the 20th annual Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in Washington DC! Our call at IFTJ 2018 is to journey to the intersections as disciples and allies, as listeners and advocates. We are brought together in courage and companionship so that we may respond to Pope Francis’s invitation to, “try to listen and be silent in order to make space for the beauty of God.” We will move forward with momentum towards the justice, beauty, and hope necessary to overcome oppression in all its forms.

As we meet at the intersections, we remember Pope Francis’s compelling advice: “This is important: to get to know people, listen, expand the circle of ideas. The world is crisscrossed by roads that come together and move apart, but the important thing is that they lead towards the Good.” May we journey together towards the Good.

We will be staying at the Marriott Crystal City Gateway Hotel, the same venue as the conference. While in DC, we will also have the opportunity to explore museums and take a guided tour of the monuments. On the final day of the program, we will gather for a prayer service on the steps of the Capitol Building and meet with legislative staff.

In order to be prepared for the event, we will have a reading assignments as well as two afterschool formation meetings during which we’ll discuss the topics raised in the readings and preparatory documents. The Teach-In is a place where people are empowered, re-energized, inspired, challenged, and supported by a community that sees faith and justice integrally linked; and we want our students to be able to get the most from the experience and take back to Dallas what they’ve learned.

This program fulfills half of your grade level service experience requirement for the school year.

The cost of the trip will be $1000 and includes:
Roundtrip airfare
Ground transportation
Travel insurance
Hotel
Meals
Conference Registration

The initial deposit $500 is due with submission of Financial Agreement Form. The remaining balance will be applied to the FACTS account and due before travel.

Financial aid is also available. Families will receive the aid form when student is accepted to the program.
