Marty Lootens is a member of the Jesuit Class of 1986. He is the brother of Tim Lootens '87. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
Martin Lootens Marty Lootens had a smile that filled the room. His ability to tell a joke or make light of a serious moment made you laugh and feel good being around him. His ears were always listening, and he genuinely cared to know how you were doing, sharing in your successes and struggles as if they were his own. Marty was born in Syracuse, NY, in 1967. After moves to Hartford, CT, and Milwaukee, WI, the family settled in Dallas in 1976. There he attended St. Patrick's Catholic School where his faith in God was formed. An avid Boy Scout, Marty loved time spent in the outdoors and honed his passion for adventure. He began high school at Jesuit College Prep where he made many life-long friends. At Jesuit, he was fast as lightning on the freshman track team and starred as running back on both the freshman and JV football teams. He later graduated from North Dallas High School and completed his degree in business administration from UT-Dallas. Marty enjoyed working in his family's travel agency and more recently, working in the catering business. Prior to college graduation, while working at Dave & Buster's, he met Margie Baker, the love of his life. Together they enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and various sporting events, specifically Cowboys' or Chiefs' football games. Margie is grateful that he taught her to be more adventurous and open minded to new things. He was the love of her life as well. They married in 1995 and their son, Sean, was born in 1997. The resemblance of Marty and Sean is incredible and could be easily confused. Marty was extremely proud to be a father. Sean learned to be a good man from Marty, to put family first, and to treat others with respect and kindness. Marty was always there for Sean and together they lived life to the fullest. They enjoyed spending time at the family lake house water and jet skiing as well as time snowboarding when they had the chance. Marty loved travel and adventure. He was scuba certified and loved to travel extensively with Margie, family, and friends to many countries. He enjoyed cooking and trying all types of food. No family get together was complete without his signature fresh-made guacamole. He never left a party or ended a phone call without first telling you he loved you. Marty is survived by his wife Margie, his son Sean, his mother and father, Rosemary and Tom Lootens, his brother Tim (Anne) Lootens and his sister Amy (Patrick) Sorensen, father-in-law Bud Baker and brothers-in-law Tony and Chris Baker. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Nick (Frankie), Sam, Jamie, and Cal Baker, Katie, Emily and Molly Lootens, and Matthew, Allie, and Emma Sorensen as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and prayers and know that Marty is in Heaven. They are comforted hearing all the stories and memories of Marty from his long-time friends and family. Marty was a true friend to many and loved fiercely. He will be missed, but never forgotten. We will miss your smile and warm embraces on earth. Rest easy Marty. The services will be Wednesday May 19th at St Patrick's Church 9643 Ferndale with the Rosary at 11:30 and funeral at noon.
