Chris Alcantar is the father of Zach Alcantar '20. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
Christopher A. Alcantar Christopher A. Alcantar passed away peacefully at his home on July 18, 2021. He was surrounded by his family and four extra sons. Chris was born in Dallas, Texas on March 28, 1969, and immediately dubbed "our favorite child who could do no wrong" to Julian and Gloria Alcantar. He grew up in East Dallas and attended Woodrow Wilson High School where he was a catcher for the Varsity baseball team his freshman year, and a member of the Wildcat Band. He graduated in 1987. He attended Austin Community College and Texas Tech University where he graduated in 1993 with a BA in Marketing. Growing up Chris had a slew of nick names: Kips, Big Boy, Packman, and the Original Chris. Following college, he met Carol Rubio through a family member and mutual friend. They were married on May 26, 1996 and had two children Sunder and Zach. He was a present and an active dad coaching Sunder's 7th grade girls' volleyball team at St. Monica's, and Zach's little league baseball team. Chris' employment was standard. In high school he was a Pizza Inn delivery driver and following college he was an assistant manager at MJ Designs, a banker, a Farmers Insurance agent, and an Insurance Analyst for JPMorgan Chase. He was an avid sports fan and you could always find him watching a TTU sporting event on any given weekend. He was a P1 with the TICKET sports radio talk show. He loved the Dallas Cowboys so much that he respectfully requests 6 Dallas Cowboy pall bearers, so they can let him down one last time. He loved music of all kind, but his favorite genres were old school rap and top 40. If there was karaoke there was a chance you would find him rapping to Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back." Chris was a well-traveled food connoisseur. His favorite road trip foods were burritos from Allsups outside Lubbock, and BBQ sandwiches from Woody's in Centerville, Texas. He was a lover of deviled eggs, kolaches, a master at dishwasher stacking. Chris knew no strangers and had a profound impact on those he met. He had a big heart and often took care of those who needed help. He adopted an elderly women Ms. Langford after her husband passed who was a customer at a bank he worked for. He became friends with her as she had no family close by. He handled her affairs and visited often when she was placed in a nursing home. He opened his home to many, and his house was the meeting place for all holiday and family events. Although a less than average life span, Chris did not live an average life. He traveled to where he wanted to, laughed inappropriately at every chance, married the love of his life, raised two beautiful children. His greatest accomplishment was being a great husband and dad. He is preceded in death by his father Julian C. Alcantar. He is survived by his wife Carol Alcantar, his children Sunder Alcantar and Zach Alcantar; his mother Gloria Alcantar; his brothers Mike Zuniga, Joe Alcantar; his two sisters Julie Wray and Rebecca Alcantar; his sisters-in-law Linda Flores and Rene Rubio, and brothers-in-law Tom Rubio and Marcus Wray; his nieces and nephews Lauren Hill, Christopher J. Alcantar, Nathan Rubio, and Kyle Rubio; his brothers from another mother Randy Savoy and Gabe Almanza; his four extra sons Ford Buckner, Connor Thoele, Jack Snider, Ian McCarthy; his man crush Justin Timberlake; his dog Sammy and grand dog Biscuit; and many loving friends. His ball bearers are Randy Savoy, Marcus Wray, Tom Rubio, Ford Buckner, Connor Theole, Nathan Rubio, Kyle Rubio, and Christopher J. Alcantar. Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Chris' life in their own way. Raising a glass of their favorite drink in his memory would be quite appropriate. Deep Eddies was his drink of choice. Donations can be made in Chris' honor to Baylor Scott and White Transplant Center in Dallas, Texas.
