James Edward (Jim) Hunt, age 75, was born June 19, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Elmer (Elmo) and Juanita Tibey Hunt. He passed into the presence of God his Father on May 3, 2023.
Jim grew up in Dallas, Texas attending St. Thomas Aquinas School and graduating from Jesuit High School in 1965. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1970 with a degree in civil engineering. Jim began his career with the Texas Department of Transportation in highway construction. If you have ever driven on a Dallas area freeway, Jim Hunt touched all of them throughout his career. He retired from TxDOT in 2003 as Director of Construction of the Dallas District after 34 years of service. Received the Gib Gilchrist award in 2000.
Jim married Kathy Jo Krehbiel in 1979. They were blessed with 2 children, Joe & Spencer Hunt. For more than 20 years Jim served in varying capacities on the board of the OU Club of Dallas, twice as president. He was instrumental in the institution of the OU/Texas Player of the Game scholarship and annual donations to The Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band and OU Spirit squads. Received the OU Regents Award in 1994. He was Sooner Born, Sooner Bred, etc. Jim and his wife Kathy moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 2003. Jim continued his engineering career with PBS&J (aka Atkins N.A.), retiring again in 2021.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, Norman, OK. Sons Joe (Pamela) Hunt, Dallas; Spencer (Tiffany) Hunt, Oklahoma City. Grandchildren Caroline, Claire, and James. Sister Mary Lou Cox, Allen, TX. Mother-in-law Betty Krehbiel, Hutchinson, KS. Brothers and sisters-in-law Kirby (Mary) Krehbiel and Steve (Alice) Krehbiel, Hutchinson, KS. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 100 Stinson St., Norman, OK 73072, www.stm-ou.org/svdp-donation Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:00 am, Tuesday, May 9th, St. Thomas More University Parish, Norman, OK with inurnment to follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, OKC, OK.
