Charles Philip Wilbert of San Antonio, Texas, affectionately known as "Daddy Charles," entered eternal life on May 15, 2023, at the age of 72. Charles was born on February 26, 1951, in Dallas, Texas, the youngest of three children of Joseph Peter Wilbert and Mary Margaret O'Donnell.
Charles made many lifelong friends as a student at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas (Class of 1969) and the University of Arkansas (Class of 1974), where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Charles then earned his Master of Arts in Environmental Engineering Sciences at the University of Texas at San Antonio (Class of 1978).
Charles' education and lifelong affinity for obscure knowledge made him a raconteur and walking encyclopedia on topics such as history, geography, geology, archeology, and religion. Never one to play by the rules, Charles loved sharing his knowledge and his irreverent sense of humor, whether over elaborate family meals he lovingly prepared with his wife Laura, with dear friends, or with the owners, servers, and patrons of the many restaurants he and Laura frequented.
Charles, Laura, and their fur baby, Louie, loved to go on adventures all over San Antonio, the Texas Coast and Hill Country, and New Orleans, where they visited his daughter, Olivia, and her husband Alan, rarely leaving town without making new friends.
Charles was a family businessman and a commercial real estate broker and developer for many years, with ownership interests in A. Wilbert's Sons, LLC, and The Wilbert Mineral Group. He was a longtime member of the German Beethoven Maennerchor, the San Antonio Country Club, and Club Giraud.
Charles is survived by his wife, Laura Anthony, who he met in 2000, fell instantly in love with, and married in 2012; his daughter, Olivia Davis (Alan) and stepchildren, Kaitlin Anthony (D Wendell), Alexandra Prosk (Keith), and Daniel Anthony (Lauren), who he was always loving and generous with; his siblings, Joe Pete Wilbert and Joanne Wilbert; his grandchildren, Mclane and Sandy; and his faithful canine companion, Louie.
