Edward Pierre Puyau Jr. '43

After a Christmas surrounded by family, on December 27, 2018, the Feast Day of St. John the Apostle, Edward Pierre Puyau, Jr. peacefully took his last breath. His life here on earth was filled with faith, joy, and laughter. Never did a man face the challenges of life with more grace. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Riordan Puyau, his father, Edward Puyau Sr., his brother Gerard Puyau, and his daughter Mary Puyau Hebert. Missing him deeply are his beloved wife of 60 years, Marie Therese Seghers Puyau, and children (and spouses) Edward (Tammie) Puyau III, Therese (John Paul) Blanchard, Roxanne (Keith) Taylor, Maurice (Beth) Puyau, Jerome (Jackie) Puyau, Jeanne Puyau, son-in-law Nicholas Hebert and Julie (Rich) Bloodworth. Also missing their dearest grandfather are his thirteen grandchildren, Megan, Brittney, Kyle, Christopher, Annelise, Brigitte, Alix, Elizabeth, Amelia, Nicholas, John Paul, Brooke, and Lainey. Edward was a veteran of the Navy in World War II. In 1948, he graduated from Southern Methodist University and went on to receive his Masters of Arts in Education from Loyola University in New Orleans. In 1958, he married the love of his life Marie Therese at St. Rose De Lima Catholic Church. For the next 40 years, he was a teacher at McDonogh 19 Elementary School and Howard Elementary School and was a principal at both Jackson Elementary School and Habans Elementary School in Orleans Parish, where he inspired the students, staff, teachers and community. Edward and Marie, along with their eight children, loved spending their summers camping across the country; together they formed Base 10 Plus. After retirement, he enjoyed reading, writing, watching movies, music, cheering on the Saints football team, attending Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, holding hands with Marie, and cherishing visits with his children and their spouses, as well as his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Christ The King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Rd., Terrytown, LA 70056 on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 1pm. Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expwy., Harvey, LA on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 from 1pm until 4pm and again on Wednesday from 10:30am until 12:30pm.
