Capt. John N. Wolcott, SC, USN (Ret.) of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Valley's Eckstein Center on May 29, 2019. Born August 27, 1935 in Dallas, Texas, he was the son of the late Herbert and Elizabeth Wolcott.
John was a 1953 graduate of Jesuit High School (Dallas), earned his BBA from Southern Methodist University, and his MBA from Michigan State University. He served more than 23 years in the United States Navy ending his career as Deputy Commander (Security Assistance) at Naval Supply Systems Command. Included among his assignments were the USS Vega (AF-59), the USS Frank E. Evans (DD-754), the Naval Supply Depot (Guam), the Defense Logistics Agency, the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, and Naval Supply Systems Command. Significant commendations during his Naval service include the Legion of Merit, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star, and the Navy Achievement Medal.
John subsequently served more than 16 years at Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU), ending his career as Senior Executive Vice President. Upon retirement from NFCU, he served as a charter member of the Board of Directors, and Treasurer, of Navy Federal Financial Group (NFFG) from 1999 to 2005.
John – a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend – was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Joy Roman Catholic Church in Carefree, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda; his sons Christopher (Carol), Mark (Karen), and David (Maggie); his sister Betty; his grandchildren Evan, Nicholas, Thomas, and Perry; and his nine nieces and nephews. We wish him fair winds and following seas. His love and generosity will always be remembered.
Funeral services and interment will be held at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.
