The Senior Experience - A Commitment to Justice

 

 

All students are required to complete the following in order to fulfill their senior year service requirement:

• 3 hour service orientation (first Wednesday of the school year)
• Attendance at SJPP (Social Justice and Public Policy Class) once a week and achieve a passing grade on assigned work/projects. This course also fulfills a required .5 credit in social studies and is factored into the spring semester GPA.
• Attendance at seven 40 minute presentations/workshops over the following topics (Dates will be provided in SJPP):
  • Poverty & Homelessness (October)
  • Educational Inequities (November)
  • Restorative Justice and Criminal Reform (December)
  • Environmental Justice (January)
  • Elder Care & End of Life Issues (February)
  • Immigration & Refugees (March)
  • Caring for those with Special Needs (April)
• 30 week Social Justice Service Practicum
• Participation in Senior Service Day - Jesuit Special Games (May)
• 30 hours of self-guided service projects from a school approved list of social service agencies in Dallas and the surrounding areas and by participating in weekend/weekday afternoon service projects offered by the Office of Service and Justice.

(Note: Seniors are not permitted to complete their self guided service through YMSL or other non-Jesuit service organizations)

OR Active membership in the following student organizations/immersion experiences will provide seniors the opportunity to complete their 30 hour service requirement:
