Junior Theo Nguyen is often spotted setting an example for his brothers in all facets of Jesuit life, although on Monday night he found himself in the spotlight giving testimony to one of his greatest passions. Nguyen, who was awarded a medal for “Superior” Performance at the Texas Private School State Solo and Ensemble contest last spring, was featured as part of the awards presentation at the Fall Orchestra Concert hosted at the Ursuline Center for Performing Arts.

Nguyen is both a talented cellist and pianist and has performed a broad spectrum of musical works. He can often be heard practicing pieces by Chopin, Liszt, and Tchaikovsky. The piece for which he received a state-wide honor and the piece he performed at the Fall Orchestra Concert, Franz Liszt's Un Sospiro, is widely considered to be one of Liszt’s most challenging compositions.

In addition to his musical talents, Nguyen is among the most active students at Jesuit, where he serves as a member of Junior Interact Service Leadership, the Jesuit Musican’s Union, medical society, men’s chorus, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honor Society and music ministry. Said one of his teachers, “Theo shares his talents with a wide-range of involvement. He challenges himself in the classroom with AP and honor courses. He is well-rounded, compassionate and a caring student. Theo’s kind and loving demeanor sets an example for us all.”

Another nomination proclaimed, “Proud to have this Man for Others representing us at so many service initiatives! Theo is an active member of the junior Interact Service Leadership Organization, has devoted a significant amount of time to working with the McShan refugee reading program, and has organized meal deliveries at AIDS Services of Dallas.”
