The loving spirit of the Jesuit Dallas community is especially pronounced during the Christmas season, and senior John Garza provided terrific leadership in Jesuit’s partnership with WFAA’s Santa’s Helpers, a toy drive serving 50,000 children throughout the metroplex.

John has established a reputation for consistently putting others before himself. A senior service site ambassador for Human Impact, he has demonstrated a deep concern and commitment to our neighbors experiencing homelessness. He was also the first to arrive on campus and recruit students in the creation of the Be the Match kits, the national marrow donor program. John was a key member of the junior leadership organization, Interact, and he participated in a service immersion program in Peru last spring.

“Truly, a man for and with others,” said a member of the service staff. “John is an exceptional student and person. He models positivity and diligence in all he does.”

A nomination from an administrator echoed those thoughts: “John approaches every opportunity to serve with a huge smile and a contagiously positive attitude, the same way he approaches his classes. He is a strong student who challenges himself academically and is quick to volunteer wherever needed.”

In addition, John is currently vice president of the Jesuit Ursuline Ranger Band and has achieved a number of performance accolades. Selected to the Texas Private School All-State band for the past two years, he performed saxophone in the Jesuit production of Grease.
