Sophomore Caleb Hudson ’28 was recently accepted into the Iowa Young Writer’s Studio (IYWS), a prestigious summer residential program widely regarded as the premier incubator of American literary talent. Caleb, who is founder and president of the Jesuit Dallas Novelist Club, was also part of a contingent of Jesuit students who had the tremendous honor of having their works selected for publication in the Young Writers U.S.A annual Stranger Sagas contest.
“Caleb’s quiet ambition and tenacity in founding The Novelist Club have brought an infectious love of creative writing to all of Jesuit's campus,” an English teacher shared. “His persistence and hard work is undeniable, and his selection into the IYWS – which has less than a 7% acceptance rate – is remarkable.”
Described by one faculty member as “an awesome team player,” Caleb is part of the Jesuit Dallas Robotics program and serves as a campus ambassador. This past summer, he worked at Chance’s Café, where he built community through engagement with our neighbors with special needs.
“Caleb is a very kind, caring student who leads through a positive example,” another nomination described. “Rarely the center of attention, he is often a strong, quiet, and reassuring presence. When Caleb asks questions, they are often thought-provoking and his insights are profound. He is a responsible student, his writing skills are impeccable, and he is dedicated to the Jesuit experience through a variety of leadership roles and efforts to make programs better.”
Congratulations to Caleb Hudson ’28, Jesuit Dallas Ranger of the Week!
