Senior Eddie Gonzalez ’26 played a crucial role as a leader this past summer during the Guatemala Medical Mission Program. As a fluent Spanish speaker, he was the voice of Jesuit team doctors for communications with patients during the health and wellness fair. In his work in the dental and pediatric clinics in San Jose Chacaya, he translated for more than 125 families over the course of five days while partnering with physicians during appointments, staff and nurses in the pharmacy, and community members during presentations.

“Eddie’s active presence allowed for deeper community engagement and care while more easily building a healthier and connected community,” said a faculty leader for the medical mission trip. “His voice during Jesuit group reflection sessions broadened student perspectives on faith, culture and access.”

Eddie previously served as a leader in MAGIS (Mentoring And Guiding Ignatian Students), a program sponsored by Jesuit’s Global Inclusion Office, supporting middle school students from underserved communities potentially matriculating to Jesuit. This year, Eddie is serving at Our Lady of Perpetual Health where he is mentoring and tutoring students in a specific grad level classroom.

One classmate shared, “Eddie is a cheery individual, incredible friend, and a leader with quiet confidence,” while another nomination wrote, “Eddie is a wonderfully hardworking student. I'm familiar with Eddie through the Higher Achievement Program and witnessed how he was always willing to help before being asked and how he modeled inclusion during group activities. He is an active member of the student body, and as a newcomer to powerlifting last year, earned props from his coaches. Ultimately, Eddie is the kind of person who lights up a room by walking in, a real Man for Others.

Congratulations to Ranger of the Week, Eddie Gonzalez ’26!
