The performing arts have always played a vital part in our community, and junior Ian Skertchly has helped to carry that banner with a tremendous amount of talent and dedication. He recently premiered his first film in front of a full house as part of a special student double feature and has been tabbed for the lead in Stage & Film’s upcoming spring feature, Lend Me a Tenor.

“I've rarely met a student with a deep understanding of empathy and how to demonstrate it in their everyday life,” described a member of the Jesuit counseling staff. “Ian has a resilience that most people his age have yet to imagine. I have had the pleasure of partnering with Ian on many projects, a few of which were major steps in his formation. The passion he gives to each and every detail and the love he shows to every person involved is remarkable. He sets a high standard for others to follow.”

Ian performed as the lead role for The Play That Goes Wrong during his sophomore year and was the assistant director for Night of the Living Dead, this past fall. Last month, he premiered the short film, Nighthunter, which he wrote and directed.

Outside of his extensive credits in stage & film, Ian is in his second year as a campus ambassador and is a three-year member of Hope Squad, where he recently addressed the student body to promote mental health and wellness on our campus. He has also been a featured speaker on other campuses in the area and has attended peer-to-peer conferences with other Hope Squads across North Texas.

“Ian is an amazing and hardworking student,” another nomination wrote. “Always polite, mindful, and participative in class, he sets a wonderful example for his peers. Whether he is giving the morning prayer, leading our student community through the Examen, or helping to push his classmates, he truly represents what it means to be a Man for Others.”

Congratulations to Ian Skertchly, Jesuit Dallas Ranger of the Week!
