MAGIS & HAP Program
The Higher Achievement Program (HAP) is an academic enrichment camp held at Jesuit every June for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys. This invitation-only program serves students of underserved communities in the Dallas metroplex. It provides them with foundational skills in the following areas: arts, science, math, and English. For more information, please contact Corey Marr (email@example.com).
The Mentoring And Guiding Ignatian Students (MAGIS), a program sponsored by Jesuit’s Diversity and Inclusion Program. MAGIS is a Jesuit phrase that means “the more,” and refers to the philosophy of discovering more in ourselves and in the members of our community. To foster this discovery, each HAP student will be paired with a Jesuit sophomore, junior or senior who will serve as a mentor. This mentorship includes attending MAGIS sponsored Jesuit events (school plays, diversity events, sporting events, community service activities, etc.), supporting and encouraging academic and personal growth goals, and being a role model.
In the MAGIS program mentors will initiate a conversation with students (via e-mail or phone) at least once a month and attend four MAGIS sponsored Jesuit events (school plays, diversity events, sporting events, community service activities, etc.) throughout the school year. All mentors will be required to submit a report once a month – a Mentorship Monthly Update or a Mentorship Event Report – and these reports will detail their interaction with their mentee and reflect on their experiences.
MAGIS is founded on the premise that boys need role models to help them reach high goals set by schools, teachers and parents. By serving as a mentor, you will help the MAGIS participants strive for these Ignatian principles: Openness to Growth, Intellectual Competence, Physical Fitness, Love, Religiousness, and Commitment to Working for Justice. Mentors will help MAGIS participants reflect on these goals and hold them as important ideals. The program will run September through May, and Jesuit Diversity and Outreach will host a kickoff event when it begins.
