MAGIS & HAP Program
The Higher Achievement Program (HAP) is an academic enrichment camp held at Jesuit every June for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys. This invitation-only program serves students of underserved communities in the Dallas metroplex. It provides them with foundational skills in the following areas: arts, science, math, and English. For more information, please contact Corey Marr (email@example.com).
All HAP students are invited to join Mentoring And Guiding Ignatian Students (MAGIS), a mentoring program sponsored by Jesuit’s Diversity and Inclusion Program. The Latin word magis can be translated as “more, better, fuller” and is closely linked to the unofficial motto of the Society of Jesus, “For the Greater Glory of God.” Saint Ignatius of Loyola used magis to describe how authentic Christianity fosters a deeper connection with Christ and more zeal in serving others. In our MAGIS mentoring, we encounter God in ourselves and in the members of our community, and therefore have the potential to transform our society.
To foster this transformation, selected HAP students have the opportunity to be paired with a Jesuit sophomore, junior or senior who will serve as their mentor throughout the school year. This mentorship will involve a monthly conversation (via e-mail or phone) and attending four events at Jesuit (school plays, diversity events, sporting events, band concerts, etc.) throughout the school year. All mentors will be required to submit a report once a month that will detail their interaction with their mentee and reflect on their conversations and shared experiences.
Through their partnership with a Jesuit student, MAGIS mentees will strive towards these characteristics of a Jesuit Graduate: Intellectually Competent, Religious, Loving, Physically Fit, Committed to Working for Justice, and Open to Growth. MAGIS mentees will reflect on these goals shared by all Jesuit Dallas students as they seek the fullest development of their God-given talents and put their faith into action.
The MAGIS program will run September through May, beginning with a kickoff event hosted by Jesuit Diversity and Inclusion. For more information, please contact Joe Nava (firstname.lastname@example.org).
